Sigma Run registration deadline now Feb 7

REGISTRATION for the 2024 Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run has been extended until Wednesday, February 7, as the company moves to ensure it hits and surpasses its $100-million target.

The sign-up period for the highly anticipated event, this year dubbed ‘Sagicor Sigma Honour Run’, was to have originally run from December 7, 2023 to February 2, 2024.

President and chief executive officer of Sagicor Group Jamaica and chairman of Sagicor Foundation Christopher Zacca, told this week’s
Jamaica Observer Monday Exchange that, while the current registration and donation numbers “would indicate we are going to surpass the target”, the company is aspiring to donate as much money as possible to its three beneficiaries this year: Savanna-La-Mar Public General Hospital, National Chest Hospital, and the Danny Williams School for the Deaf.

“We ask Jamaicans who have not registered to register,” Zacca said.

“We cover every single penny of the cost. So any additional registration, any donation, will be additional money for beneficiaries,” he added.

Zacca said that while this year’s $100-million target is by far the largest the company has ever set for itself, “we have a habit of beating the target… we are doing well and we are very confident about that target”.

At the same time, Zacca said this year’s event, scheduled for February 18, is “a very special run”, celebrating the life of the late R Danny Williams, founder of Life of Jamaica, which became Sagicor Jamaica. He was also chairman of Sagicor Foundation, which sponsors the Sigma Run.

“Danny is a giant in Jamaica and his life of philanthropy and giving back is unquestionably one of the biggest in Jamaica. So it is a deep honour for us to call this year’s run the Sagicor Sigma Honour Run in honour of Danny Williams,” Zacca said, noting that the event has, over its 25 years, raised more than $650 million for numerous beneficiaries with a focus on health, child-related and educational initiatives.

People can register/donate online using a debit or credit card at the Sigma Run website at:
https://sagicorsigmarun.com. They can also visit the Sigma Run Secretariat on the ground floor of the R Danny Williams Building, 28-48 Barbados Avenue, New Kingston, to sign up.

Other ways to donate are by cheque – Sagicor Foundation Jamaica; direct deposit – Sagicor Foundation Jamaica — Account: 5502907486 (Sagicor Bank); Sagicor Bank Credit Card Points (Business and Individual); PayPal — Sagicor Foundation Jamaica; Gustazos; American Friends of Jamaica via website using the ‘Donate Now’ button on the AFJ website
www.theafj.org for credit card donations — in which case you have to put “Sagicor Foundation — 2024 Sigma Run” in the additional Information field.

The Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run is a unique road-running event designed to inspire fun, fitness and camaraderie among Jamaica’s business and fitness communities. It is known to be the largest road race in the Caribbean, and 100 per cent of all monies raised go to support the beneficiaries that are named each year.

Patrons for this year’s staging are Andre Blake, captain and goalkeeper for Jamaica’s senior men’s national football team; 2019 and 2023 World Championships 400 metre hurdles bronze medallist Rushell Clayton; and
FYAH 105 DJ Orrett “Bambino” Hart. This year’s platinum sponsors are Catherine’s Peak and Securys Limited.
