World champion Watson to make seasonal debut
Jamaica’s freshly-minted Sportsman of the Year Antonio Watson will make his seasonal debut when he lines up in the 400m at the Camperdown Classic on Saturday inside the National Stadium.
The reigning world 400m champion of Racers Track Club who has a personal best of 44.13, is drawn in a competitive heat 5 with his teammate Jeremy Brembridge who has a personal best of 45.55, Roshawn Clarke of Swept TC with a personal best of 45.22, Terry Thomas (45.47) and Malik James King (45.22) of Titans.
Watson will have to run a little bit harder than he probably would have wanted to open his season unless winning is not on his agenda but his champion instinct will chip in and he will want to win.
Meanwhile, 100m sprinters Oblique Seville (47.71) and Zharnel Hughes (46.58) of Great Britain are down in Heat 4 while Heat 3 will see injury hit Jhevaughn Matherson (48.56) competing.
Eyes will be on Heat 2 as rising star Bouwahjgie Nkrummie, now at Racers, will make his seasonal debut after ending last season injured, after speeding to a personal best 9.98. This will be his first official 400 run.
World Under-20 100m hurdles champion Kerrica Hill of Elite will compete in the women’s 400m while her teammates Kasheika Cameron (7.27) and Legacy’s Jura Levy (7.24) clash in the 60m dash.
The controversial Tyquendo Tracey (6.74) of Swept will take on Nigel Ellis (6.70) and Michali Everett (6.65) of Elite TC in the 60m. Guyana’s Emmanuel Archibald (6.58) and Emre Barnes (6.59) of Turkey will make the event an exciting one.
The highly-thought-of Deandre Daley of Herbert Morrison is down for the men’s 100m in heat 3 and should win that timed final which includes Japan’s Kendai Katsuse (10.24).
