D Major content with Morning Prayer
Spirituality came up a lot during D Major’s recent interview with the Jamaica Observer.
The singer says it plays a big role in his life and music, hence Morning Prayer, the title of his new EP.
The six-song project was released two weeks ago and contains the title song, produced by fellow artiste Busy Signal. It is driven by the melody of Tom’s Diner, a big hit in 1987 for American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega.
D Major has had measured success with songs like People Make The World Go Round, Sunshine, and Girl of my Dreams, but the mainstream hit remains elusive.
He smiled at the suggestion that Morning Prayer may provide him with that big chart-rider.
“Mi nuh really concentrate on it like dat. Then again, you’d have to ask di people, because at di end of di day it’s di audience, di massive, dat decides dat,” said D Major. “We’re satisfied with di work, an’ we leave it up to di massive and di Almighty. It’s di Almighty who decides where favour rests, so let’s see what di Almighty has in store.”
The EP also includes Unstoppable, produced by sprint legend Usain Bolt, who D Major knew prior to his superlative feats at the Olympics and World Championships. To keep fit, he once trained with the Racers Track Club, which guided Bolt to superstardom.
Unstoppable was released in 2023 and is one of the songs that marked the athlete’s foray into music production.
D Major, who has been recording songs for over 15 years, did not disclose the reasons for his new-found spirituality, but credits it for his current contentment.
“It’s where my mindset is, my direction. It’s all about righteousness and love,” he said.
