A maiden condition event for three-year-olds over 1,300 metres opened the programme of nine races.

Schooled by champion and season-leader Jason DaCosta, Provident, bet at 5/2 for the first start of his career, came forward readily in the home straight.

Following a duel for ascendancy inside the last 200 metres the nicely conformed colt prevailed over 9-1 shot Mack And Rome by two and a half lengths.

Panamanian rider Josue Osorio picked up his third winner since qualifying for a licence in Jamaica earlier this year.

Run as race two, the $250,000 claimer over 1,000 metres round went to Nuttin But Trouble (3-1). Ridden by veteran Oneil Mullings, the six-year-old bay horse, saddled by Randolph Scottc was always in control of the pace and won by seven lengths.

Race three was the start of a good day for jockey Raddesh Roman as the Anthony Nunes-trained Anonymous (4-5) coasted in by six lengths over 1,400 metres to be the first of four winners for the rider.

Race four, a maiden condition for five-year-olds and upwards over 800 metres straight, went to She’s Prado (6-5), ridden by vacationing veteran Roderick DaCosta for trainer Fitzgerald Richards. In race five, two-kilo claimer Richard Henry rode 4-5 favourite Emperorofthecats to a two-and-half-length victory over the 1000-metre straight course for breeder/owner/trainer Carl Anderson. Surprisingly, the winner was not claimed for the $1-million tag.

Roman’s third was an easy, four-length winning sprint for trainer Michael Cain Jr’s
He Stands Alone (3-5) in race seven, a maiden condition optional claiming over 1000 metres round.

In the nightcap Roman had Errol Waugh’s Antarctica (4-1) in front early and never at any stage looked likely to be overtaken over the 1,500 metres, to seal his fourth success on the card.

As things stand Roman has improved his tally to 31 this season, which leaves him 12 less than current leader Tevin Foster who was winless on the day.

Racing for the third occasion locally, US-bred Wall Street Trader (Robert Halledeen), saddled by Vincent Maine, won race eight to follow up on two good second-place finishes. The Kentucky-bred five-year-old gelding won the 1,500-metre contest by over three lengths and added to two victories from 21 starts in the United States.

The Training Feat Award is presented to Errol Waugh for posting Antarctica in improved and therefore unbeatable condition to deliver the Best Winning Gallop. Roman gets the Jockeyship Award for his skills aboard Golden Syrup to win a very competitive event.
