A winner for jockey Roderick ‘Teddy’ DaCosta
LONG-STANDING reinsman Roderick DaCosta, who recently returned to Caymanas Park from race riding in Canada, found himself in the winners’ enclosure for the first time in five years on home soil when he guided
She’s Prado to victory in the fifth race on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
She’s Prado, owned by Laura McLean and trained by Fitzgerald Richards, was victorious in a maiden condition race for native-bred five-year-olds and upward over four furlongs.
She’s Prado won by a length and a half ahead of Another Wave (Tevin Foster) and Last Dance (Ramon Nepare) in 49.4.
DaCosta last won a race at the Park in April of 2019 aboard Ridewiththemob, also trained by Richards.
Ridewiththemob held on that day by a short head to beat Carl Anderson’s pair of
Obsession (Kiaman McGregor) and Perfect Union (Christopher Mamdeen). That had been DaCosta’s first win since 2011.
“I feel so happy about winning races here. I greatly appreciate the trainer’s help because he always looks out for both me and the owner as well,” DaCosta told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“Every year when I return from overseas he [Fitzgerald Richards] always had an excellent one for me, which I greatly enjoyed. I am happy and I am grateful,” he added.
