Another five-star performance from Roman

TITLE-CHASING jockey Raddesh Roman was the toast at the races on Saturday as the young, spirited reinsman booted home another five winners to highlight the 10-race card marking Mother’s Day at Caymanas Park.

Roman’s winners included an 11-1 upset win aboard Justin Biden in the second running of the $1.25-million Yvonne Mattis Cup feature over nine furlongs (1,800m).
Justin Biden picked up the lead at the four-furlong (800-metre) marker and never gave his gallop up in a two-and-quarter-length win in the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and older.

Owned by Carlton Granston and trained by Lawrence Freemantle,
Justin Biden completed the distance in 1:54.2 (24.3 x 49.0 x 1:14.0 x 1:40.0).

Roman’s other winners were Kingswood for trainer Saqlain Roman in the first race; Crimson for trainer Ryan Darby in the second race;
Traveller’s Lodge for trainer Christopher Pearson in the sixth race; and
Bold Move for trainer Gary Subratie in the eighth race.

With those winners Roman took his tally to 43 winners for the season, eight wins behind leader Tevin Foster who is on 51 winners. Foster had two winners in Flybluejet in the fourth race for trainer Philip Feanny, and
Teflon Don for trainer Jason DaCosta in the fifth race, the Mother’s Day Special Trophy.

“It is an amazing feeling to win five winners,” Roman told the Jamaica Observer. “It is a lot of hard work and dedication that I have put into this sport and I am just happy that it is paying off. Thanks to the owners, trainers, grooms, and all connections and supporters who have made this all possible.”

Racing continues next weekend with races on Saturday and Sunday.
