Junior Toots, Black Ice remind people to ‘Be Thankful’ in new single
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Armed each with the individual talent to create solo masterpieces, reggae singers/songwriters Black Ice and Junior Toots decided to collaborate on an uplifting duet they say has been shifting people’s perspective on life.
“Be Thankful,” according to the entertainers, is a song of thanks for life’s journey and is a testament to not just their musical prowess but their relentless devotion to spreading positivity.
“We wanted to create something that wasn’t just strong musically but also portrayed a strong message to the people. It is so easy to get lost in the day-to-day movements that a lot of times we forget to take a moment to pause and just give thanks for the opportunities we have been afforded,” said Black Ice.
Junior Toots, in agreeing with his musical partner, said he wanted the single to be a daily reminder to people to always show gratitude even when things do not go according to plan. “We have a lot to give thanks for and so we always have to keep that at the forefront of our minds. Give thanks for life and all life’s lessons because life is about love, and love is about life,” he said.
Junior Toots, the son of the late Toots Hibbert, legendary frontman for Toots and the Maytal, said the single which was released at the beginning of the year is an ode to his father and has been receiving tremendous feedback from listeners.
“This is a song dedicated to my father and his legacy. I am thankful he got to share his talent with not just Jamaica but the world,” he said. “The single has been getting a lot of love from all those who come across it. Some have said it is uplifting and motivates them to keep gratitude as a top priority.”
Black Ice, who revealed that he got the chance to open for the late Toots, said he will always hold those memories dear to his heart.
“I had the pleasure of opening for him, together with his son, Junior Toots, the featured artist on this single, ‘Be thankful’. I will always be grateful for the experiences and love we share,” he said.
