LIBERTY Academy’s clash with defending champions Mona Prep highlights the start of the quarter-final group stage of the JISA/Canopy Insurance National Under-12 Alberga Cup football competition, as the 12 best independent schools in the country continue their hunt for glory.

Three groups of four teams have been drawn, with Mona, Liberty, many-time champions Lannaman’s and Glenmuir Prep contesting Group A.

Last year’s finalists Hillel Academy, El Instituto De Mandeville, Wolmer’s Prep, and St Andrew Prep make up Group B, while Sts Peter and Paul, Emmanuel Christian Academy (ECA), Hydel Prep and American International School of Kingston (AISK) complete Group C.

The business end of the competition gets going on Saturday with six matches. The contest between last year’s all-conquering Mona team, the Zone 4 winners, and the ever-improving Liberty Academy, a finalist in the Henriques Cup knockout competition in 2023 and Zone 2 runners-up in this year’s preliminary stage, is attracting the greatest interest. The teams are to meet at 11:30 am at Liberty Academy.

In the other Group A match Lannaman’s, preliminary Zone 1 winners, and Zone 5 runners-up Glenmuir will meet at Maxfield Park, also at 11:30 am.

Zone 2 winners Hillel are to square off with best-third-place-team St Andrew Prep in their quarter-final Group B matchup at Liberty Academy, starting at 10:00 am. The other Group B match will see Wolmer’s Prep, the Zone 3 runners-up, facing Zone 5 winners El Instituto at Sts Peter and Paul at 10:00 am.

Group C will see the runners-up from zones 1 and 4, ECA and Hydel, respectively, coming up against each other at Maxfield Park at 10:00 am. Zone 3 victors Sts Peter and Paul are scheduled to host AISK, who qualified for the quarter-finals as the second-best third-place finisher, at 11:30 am.

The quarter-final group stage continues on Monday and Wednesday with a full slate of matches.
