Man accused of assaulting father-in-law referred to restorative justice
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man accused of assaulting his father-in-law has been referred to restorative justice following his appearance in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Damoun Lewis is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
When the matter was called up in court, presiding Judge Peter Wilson expressed concern over the allegations, telling Lewis that he could not disrespect his father-in-law.
Wilson also reminded Lewis that his father-in-law was an elder and questioned who he expected his partner to side with in the dispute.
Lewis responded by telling the court that his father-in-law had not been showing him any “respect”.
The judge urged Lewis to reconsider his stance, adding that he was not convinced restorative justice would resolve the conflict.
“He looks like he will fight him again,” Wilson remarked before referring the matter to restorative justice.
Lewis is scheduled to return to court on November 11, 2026.
