Lucky Dollar, Courts Bargain Centre in Spanish Town temporarily closed amid increased tensions
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Lucky Dollar and Courts Bargain Centre, which was set ablaze, in Spanish Town, St Catherine have been temporarily closed due to recent riots in the old capital, Unicomer Jamaica said in a release on Thursday.
Earlier, the Courts Bargain Centre located on Young Street in Spanish Town was reportedly set on fire following the fatal shooting of alleged gang leader Othneil Lobban otherwise called ‘Thickman’.

Managing Director of Unicomer Jamaica, Errol Le Blanc said there were no injuries reported from the early morning fire.
“We are thankful that the fire at our Young Street store did not affect any staff. Our products can be replaced, but our people cannot. The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority,” Le Blanc said.
Dianne Dunston, head of sales for Unicomer Jamaica added that the company will continue to communicate with the police to determine when it is safe to reopen Lucky Dollar.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining regular contact with local law enforcement to determine when it will be safe to reopen the store,” Dunston said.
In the meantime, the company advised that while the Young Street location will be closed, the Courts Bargain Centre on Kings Street, Kingston remains open.
It added that Courts Spanish Town Oasis store will continue to operate, as the management of the furniture store is actively monitoring the situation in collaboration with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of staff and customers.
Unicomer Jamaica further advised that updates regarding the reopening of the Lucky Dollar will be provided as the situation in Spanish Town develops.
