VMBS closes Spanish Town branch for the day over security concerns
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – The Spanish Town branch of VM Building Society (VMBS) will remain closed on Thursday due to the violent flare-up in the old capital, the financial institution has advised.
“For your safety, we invite you to visit our Portmore branch or our Linstead branch today,” read a closure notice to customers.
The financial institution is also urging customers to conduct transactions online at myvmoline.myvmgroup.com.
There has been unrest in Spanish Town over the police killing of the reputed leader of the notorious One Order Gang.
Othneil Lobban, otherwise called ‘Thickman’, was cut down by members of the Joint Anti-Gang Task Force (JAGTF) at Six Miles in St Andrew about 10:30 pm on Wednesday.

Since the killing, according to the police, there have been attempts by supporters of the deceased to disrupt the area. Among the incidents, a Courts store in Spanish Town was set ablaze.

Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) are maintaining a strong presence on the ground and reportedly have the situation now under control.
