Aplomb finds winning form
Aplomb, a four-year-old chestnut filly bred by Western Warrior out of Truly Trudy, finally broke her maiden in style on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Caymanas Park.
Trained by Tensang Chung and ridden by Matthew Bennett, Aplomb dominated the field in a maiden condition race for four-year-old and upward fillies and mares.
Starting strongly, Aplomb quickly took the lead ahead of Lady Sarsutta (Oshane Nugent) and Miss Coupersland (Richie Shakes). As the field approached the dummy rails, Aplomb pulled away, crossing the finish line an impressive 5½ lengths clear of the competition. Her winning time was 1:01.3 (24.1 x 48.1) over the five-furlong (1,000m) straight course.
Lady Sarsutta and Miss Coupersland filled the minor placings, but Aplomb was the clear star of the show, finally finding the winning post after eight starts.
