A celebration of Dean Karren Foster’s legacy

Dear Editor,

As The Mico University College bids farewell to one of its most remarkable leaders, we do not say goodbye; instead, we celebrate. Dean Karren Foster has been more than an administrator — she has been a beacon of wisdom, excellence, and resilience. As she embarks on a new journey of retirement, we honour her with a reflection on her legacy through the very essence of what it means to be a woman:

• W – wise and visionary: Karren Foster is the epitome of wisdom. She possesses a keen, strategic mind that anticipates challenges and crafts solutions with precision. Her ability to foresee the evolving landscape of education ensured that The Mico’s Faculty of Education remained at the forefront of academic excellence. A true visionary, she didn’t just react to change — she shaped it, leading with foresight and determination.

• O – outstanding and unwavering: Excellence was never optional under Dean Foster’s leadership. She set a standard that challenged those around her to rise higher. Whether it was policy review, faculty development, or student engagement, she approached every task with an unwavering commitment to quality. Her eye for detail was unmatched, her expectations were high, but her faith in her team was always steadfast.

• M – mentor and motivator: A leader’s legacy is best measured by the lives he/she inspires, and Dean Foster has left an indelible mark on countless educators. She was not just a leader, she was a mentor, pushing others towards excellence with grace and understanding. Whether through structured guidance or a simple word of encouragement, she motivated faculty and students alike to exceed their own expectations.

• A – audacious and astute: With courage and confidence, Dean Foster made bold decisions that shaped the future of The Mico. She had the rare ability to balance diplomacy with decisiveness, always standing firm in her convictions while being open to dialogue. Her sharp analytical skills ensured that every policy, initiative, and academic strategy was backed by thorough research and critical thinking.

• N – nurturing and noble: Beyond the professional sphere, Dean Foster is a woman of deep compassion and integrity. She cared not just about the work but about the people doing it. She led with both head and heart, fostering an environment in which faculty felt valued, students felt empowered, and excellence was nurtured.

Her colleagues have expressed their deep admiration for her leadership: “Dean Foster, you didn’t just lead; you uplifted. You didn’t just set standards; you inspired us to exceed them. Your legacy will remain woven into the fabric of this institution, and though you may no longer be seated in the dean’s chair, your influence will continue to shape us for years to come.”

As she steps into this new chapter, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes. The Mico University College has been privileged to have you, and though we will miss your presence, we celebrate all that you have accomplished.

Dean Karren Foster, you are the woman we trust.
