Gov’t invested over $24b in the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project — Morgan
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation with the responsibility for Works, Robert Morgan, says the government has invested approximately $24.41 billion as of March 31, 2025, in the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project.
“The Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project is not just about roads—it’s about people, productivity and the future of Western Jamaica. We are building infrastructure that will serve generations, support economic growth and enhance safety and convenience for all,” he shared in a media statement on Wednesday.
The project is now 60 per cent complete and is being financed by the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation and the National Road Operating and Constructing Company.
The project includes a 15 kilometre dual carriageway from Ironshore to Bogue (70 per cent complete), Long Hill Bypass providing a safer and more efficient route for motorists, upgraded and improved traffic flow and enhanced to ease congestion in Central Montego Bay.
According to the ministry, the completed works are expected to significantly benefit both commuters and businesses.
“Commuters will experience faster, safer journeys with reduced travel times and less congestion, particularly during peak hours. For businesses, especially those in tourism, logistics and commerce, the improved road network will enhance access to ports, airports and major commercial centres, increasing efficiency and reducing transportation costs. The project is also expected to stimulate new investments and support the overall economic development of the region,” the ministry said.
It said expenditure is expected to continue through the next two fiscal years, with $12.06 billion projected for FY2025/26 and $19.47 billion for FY2026/27
