Hospital redundancy dispute settled with probationary post
Tell Claudienne
Dear Claudienne,
I was employed as a civil servant at the Spanish Town Hospital since 2009 and was appointed in 2010 as a pharmacy technician.
I was granted study leave in August 2016 to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. However, while I was on study leave, my post was made redundant.
Despite my eligibility for a redundancy payment, I have not received it.
Since completing my studies my attempts to seek clarification to resolve this matter have been unsuccessful and to my surprise, I have been accused of abandoning my job, which is far from the truth.
As I have been unsuccessful in trying to navigate this situation on my own, I am seeking your help to resolve this matter.
AG
Dear AG,
Tell Claudienne has been in communication with the CEO of the Spanish Town Hospital and a senior manager of the South East Regional Authority (SERHA), in respect of your allegations.
The senior manager at SERHA sent the column the following e-mail on March 3, 2025:
“I am not able to divulge the office’s information to you; however, please note that the matter is being addressed.”
You have informed Tell Claudienne that on March 24, SERHA assigned you to a temporary post at the Spanish Town Hospital. And more recently, SERHA informed you by letter that you would be on six months’ probation in the post to which you were temporarily placed in March.
We wish you all the best.
