New ‘Park Smart’ arrangements to take effect at MoBay airport on June 1
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The Sangster International Airport in St James is implementing new parking arrangements designed to improve traffic flow, enhance accessibility and provide a more efficient experience for all airport users.
Dubbed the “Park Smart” initiative, the new arrangements will take effect on June 1, 2025, and introduces clearly defined short-term and long-term parking options to better accommodate the needs of various airport users.
According to Peter Hall, the chief operating officer at MBJ Airports Limited (MBJ), which operates the airport, the “Park Smart” initiative will address a common pain point.
“We understand that clear, convenient parking options are essential to a stress-free airport experience, and so, these enhancements represent our ongoing commitment to providing a superior experience for everyone who uses the parking facilities at Sangster International Airport. By optimising our parking facilities, we are ensuring more efficient traffic management throughout the airport complex,” Hall said.
Key features of the new parking arrangements will see the Arrivals Public Car Park offering short-term parking only and the Departures Public Car Park offering both short and long-term parking.
The Arrivals Public Car Park will be specifically for quick pick-ups and short visits of three hours or less; will charge an hourly rate of $250 JMD per hour or part thereof (no daily rate cap); and will not permit overnight parking. MBJ said passengers and their parties are encouraged to meet inside this car park.
As for the Departures Public Car Park, MBJ said an hourly rate of $250 JMD will apply, with a rate of $1,000 JMD per day after three hours. It said this car park will be the designated area for all overnight parking and is ideal for daily parking exceeding three hours. MBj added that it is conveniently located for passengers requiring extended parking durations.
“As the Caribbean’s leading airport, we remain committed to enhancing our operational efficiency and the satisfaction of our airport users, and so, we want to ensure that all users of the airport, visitors and travellers, have ample time to understand and adjust to these new arrangements,” Hall said.
