US revises Jamaica travel advisory to Level 2
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) Government has revised its travel advisory for Jamaica to Level 2, a move that will elicit a large sigh of relief within the tourism industry.
The revised level comes two months after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio committed, during his visit to Jamaica in March, to review the Level 3 travel advisory which, among a number of factors, had been negatively impacting the vibrant but fragile tourism industry.
Jamaica Observer sources say the sustained reduction in murders over recent months has contributed significantly to the revised travel advisory.
Although the revision is influenced by the drop in the country’s murder numbers, the US Government is still advising its citizens who wish to travel to the island to exercise care.
“While violent crime in Jamaica has decreased since 2024, it remains statistically high throughout the country. Tourist areas generally see lower rates of violent crime than other parts of the country,” the US State Department states on its website.
