Jeremy Miller takes the helm as coach of Calabar senior football team – sources
Observer Online understands that Jeremy Miller has taken over as head coach of the Calabar High School senior football team, replacing Andrew Price whose contract was not renewed at the end of its three-year limit.
Miller, the son of the popular clergyman Reverend Al Miller, was the coach of Calabar’s Under-16 team that reached the quarterfinal last year.
Efforts to get a confirmation from school principal Sian Wilson proved futile Monday morning as telephone calls to her cellular phone went unanswered.
A past student of Wolmer’s Boys School, Miller previously coached McKay New Raiders United in the St Catherine league.
Veteran coach Price saw his three-year contract not renewed after leading the school into the second round of the Manning Cup competition for the first time in seven years.
Calabar just narrowly missed a quarterfinal spot after finishing third in their second round group with four points behind St Catherine High (7 pts) and Jamaica College (5 pts).
The Red Hills Road-based school last won the Manning Cup in 2005 under the guidance of the late David “Wagga” Hunt.
Calabar, which was formed in 1912, have won the Manning Cup on three occasions – in 1943, 1977 and 2005 – but have not been a major force in football over the last two decades.
