KINGSTON, Jamaica—Police are moving to prevent any form of retaliation following the killing of a reputed gang leader in Olympic Garden, St Andrew, on Wednesday night.

The deceased, Mark Harrison, otherwise called ‘Mark 2’, the leader of the 440 Drive gang, was reportedly shot dead by one of his henchmen at his home, the police said.

Reports indicated that around 11:00 pm, Harrison was at home when he was approached by one of his cronies, who pulled a firearm and shot him several times in the upper body.

The man fled, and residents assisted Harrison to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he later died while undergoing surgery.

The St Andrew South police reported that in the days leading up to the incident, the gang leader and his alleged killer were frequently seen together in the community.

They engaged in seemingly friendly interactions, socialised, drank and spent time together in a manner that did not indicate a conflict.

Police said the gang leader’s killing has significantly increased the potential risk of retaliation. According to the police, there is a high likelihood that counterattacks may be initiated by the gang, as they possess the capabilities and resources to cause harm.

Harrison, the police said, maintained deep ties to the criminal underworld. He had numerous criminal associates who may choose to avenge his death, thereby escalating tensions and triggering further acts of violence.

As a result, the police have requested that Courtney ‘Blood Stain’ Ashley, also called ‘Orlando Williams’, ‘Biggs’ and ‘Alien’, who is wanted in the division for murder/shooting, to turn himself in.

The police have also listed three persons of interest, namely Tevin Clarke of Seaward Drive, Damari McKnight aka Kujo; and Mark Harrison Jr aka ‘Passa.’

These four men are to report to the Hunt Bay Police Station by noon tomorrow.

Police said the motive of the attack on Harrison is unclear. However, it was revealed that the alleged killer was brought into the 440 Drive Gang and community by the now-deceased.

This gang is involved in murders, shootings, rental, extortion, and contract killing, the police said.

Furthermore, the police shared that the gang is involved in an active feud/turf conflict with the neighbouring Samacan gang. This conflict has resulted in multiple murders, shootings and arson attacks.

According to the police, Harrison had multiple encounters with law enforcement.

In 2015, he was stopped while riding a bicycle, searched, and found in possession of a Parabellum pistol along with a magazine containing 10 rounds. He was arrested, charged, and later released in relation to that matter.

On November 2, 2018, Harrison was again arrested and charged with shooting with intent, assault at common law, unlawful wounding, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
