St James’ fire boat to return to action soon
ST JAMES, Jamaica — After a prolonged spell out of service, it has been announced that the fire boat in St James is expected to be back in the water soon.
That was the word from the second in command for the parish, acting superintendent Keneisha Vaccianna.
“The fire boat, which has been dry docked for quite some time, is closer to setting sail as new engines were installed and other repairs done,” he told the monthly general meeting of the St James Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
“It’s undergoing a testing phase to be launched in short order,” he added.
The fire boat, he told the Jamaica Observer, has been in drydock since 2024 but has been off action for some time previously.
However, the Jamaica Fire Brigade has been making the necessary repairs, and now the boat is basically ready to return to active duty.
Its return will enhance the protections afforded to marine vehicles and individuals on the sea in the general navigable area.
