TMC to repair leaking roof at Falmouth market
TRELAWNY, Jamaica —The Trelawny Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced plans to carry out urgent repairs to a leaking roof at the Falmouth market, as the start of the hurricane season — typically marked by heavy rainfall — draws near.
Speaking during the corporation’s regular monthly meeting on Thursday, TMC chairman and Mayor of Falmouth, C Junior Gager, assured the public that the repair work is expected to be completed over the weekend.
He explained that a technical team recently conducted an assessment and discovered damage to a section of the roof, which will be the focus of the repairs.
“We are trying to get the work done over the weekend. It isn’t a major job. What’s happening is the way how the roof was design, the leak developed at sections of the gutter, and the water runs along there. So we are working on that,” Gager explained.
The mayor further disclosed that workmen from the TMC’s technical department have assessed the extent of the damage, and the necessary materials have already been purchased to begin the repairs.
The initiative comes in response to ongoing complaints from vendors and shoppers, who have faced inconvenience whenever it rains.
