Alkaline, Sponge Music team up for ‘Heart Scar’
A creative force in music, Alkaline’s talent is undeniable, and according to music producer Charles ‘Sponge Music’ Williston, the dancehall artiste plays an integral role in any production that he has recorded with him.
Alkaline and Sponge Music released their latest collaboration Heart Scar on Monday and within one day, the official audio racked up more than 113,000 views on YouTube while taking the #18 spot on the YouTube Trending for Music list.
Heart Scar is Alkaline’s solemn tribute to his father who is now deceased.
“Alkaline is always in great spirit, a very intelligent person, so when he records it’s always about events that everyone can relate to. He is the humblest person you can ever meet in life. I call him my music mentor and brother. Remember this is an international artiste that the world looks up to and working with him is like a dream come true. The man basically changed my life,” Sponge Music disclosed in an interview with Observer Online on Tuesday morning.
He shared that Alkaline and his sister were the ones who taught him the ropes musically when he decided to venture into the area of production.
“He and his sister, Kereena Beckford, were the ones who guided me and showed me the ropes/process about the music business. Importantly, Alkaline’s input is very important in the final process of production. What we work with has a certain sound that he looks for and working with him over the years, I learned how to create that sound, which turns into a hit song,” the respected producer noted.
Among the hit songs that Sponge Music and Alkaline have worked on are Earn Your Way (released two months ago and has racked up more than 2.2 million views), Nah Lef Eh Game and Real Dawgs.
