Chung impresses with Sophie Say So performance
Having watched his horse Sophie Say So break her maiden tag on Saturday at Caymanas Park, trainer Spencer Chung says he was impressed with the filly’s performance and believes that if she stays sound, she could develop into something special.
Sophie Say So, ridden to victory by veteran jockey Ian Spence, won the five-furlong event comfortably by eight-and-a-half lengths in a time of 1:01.2.
Chung says he has been taking his time with the three-year-old filly in her workouts, and she responded well. “She is a first-time runner, and so we just wanted everything to go smoothly, because when they win for the first time out, it shows that they have ability and a lot of potential,” he said.
“I just always train them very easy and let them come on by themselves, and she has always been sound and everything. Hopefully, she will just keep improving and getting better and better,” Chung added.
He stressed that Sophie Say So is bred to go the distance and could be running over a much longer journey in the future. “It was a five-furlong race, and I think she is bred to go a little longer. I think she wants to go a little longer, and the fact that she won five furlongs easily shows that she has some class. So you always expect great things from your horse.”
