National Trials 2025: St Vincent’s Maloney leads women’s 800m first round
KINGSTON, Jamaica — St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Shafiqua Maloney led the first round of the women’s 800m at the opening session of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association’s National Championships at the National Stadium in Kingston on Thursday.
Maloney made it through to the final with the fastest time, running 2:00.03.
Kelly Ann Beckford was the top Jamaican to secure her spot in the final, running a season’s best of 2:01.03, followed by many-time national champion Natoya Goule, who advanced in 2:02.61; national 1500m record holder Adelle Tracey, who ran 2:03.57; and Kishay Rowe — 2:05.88.
Kenyans Gladys Chepngetich, who ran 2:01.09, and Judy Kosgei, who ran 2:02.97, were also in the field.
Meanwhile, the first round of the men’s 800m was scrapped. The event will instead be run as a straight final on Saturday, it was announced.
