Sizzla headlines Jamaica’s Independence celebrations in Lauderhill
KINGSTON, Jamaica- The tradition of celebrating Jamaica’s Independence is not restricted to local shores.
As a matter of fact, it’s a permanent fixture on the entertainment calendar in the Jamaican Diaspora.
Come Sunday August 3, the Lauderhill Performing Arts Centre in Florida will come alive with the staging of Solid as a Rock: Jamaica 63rd Independence Celebration with Sizzla Kalonji as the headline act.
“The Jamaica Independence celebration is significant to me because it represents the fight of the people, being liberated from the slave system and being an independent country and nation,” Sizzla told Observer Online on Thursday.
He said patrons are in for a treat and should expect nothing short of an exciting performance.
“The fans can expect more vibes, more love, more music and an atmosphere of great expectation and love from the people. Expect an exciting performance,” the Thank You Mama deejay shared.
Also billed to perform are Etana, Lady G, Admiral Tibet and Hal Anthony, while music will be provided by Foota Hype, Supa Sound, DJ Fergie and DJ Radcliffe.
Performers will be backed by Code Red Band, while MCs will be Jody Ann Gray and Mr Lexus and TC Flexx.
Sizzla, whose latest single is Love You So, says he is working on a new album.
“We don’t have a name as yet for the album, but it is being mixed right now,” said Sizzla.
