Dinthill seek Zone J lead in daCosta Cup

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Former champions Dinthill Technical could take over the lead in Zone J of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition when they host Charlemont High in a rescheduled game set to start at 2:00pm Monday.

Dinthill are in second place on 15 points from six games, one point behind leaders and fellow second round qualifiers McGrath High who have played seven games.

The Lenworth Hyde-coached Dinthill won the first round game against Charlemont High 3-0 and even a draw Monday would still see them lead McGrath High, on goal-difference.

On Saturday, Dinthill hammered Tacius Golding High 14-0, one more than the 13 goals they had scored in their previous five games.

Two more rescheduled games are set to be played Monday, with Herbert Morrison Technical and May Day High potentially putting pressure on teams above them in the points tables in the race for the second round.

Herbert Morrison are third in Zone A on 12 points and a win over St James High on Monday would take them to within a point of second placed Maldon High. They are coming off back-to-back wins, including a shock 1-0 victory over Maldon High last week, and are facing a must win game if they are to get one of the two automatic qualifying spots.

St James High are out of contention for one of the two automatic qualifying spots but could be looking for revenge after they were beaten 3-1 in the first round. Maldon High, who are on 16 points, have failed in three tries to qualify for the second round, drawing with Irwin High before losing to Herbert Morrison Technical and Cornwall College.

May Day High are chasing a place from Zone F and are on 14 points, behind leaders Manchester High- 27 points and Belair High-19 points. They will take on Mt St Joseph Catholic who will hope to rebound from a 10-0 beating by Manchester on Saturday.
