Fortuna Belle makes debut in $1.25-m Kaz Hoshay Trophy

Tomorrow’s 10-race card is set to shine with the $1.25-million Kaz Hoshay Trophy, featuring the highly anticipated debut of Fortuna Belle, a top-rated foreigner from Robert Pearson’s stables. This three-year-old-and-up Overnight Allowance contest will cover 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).

The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide breaks down each runner’s chances of winning.

1. CALIFORNIA CROWN : (4 ch c by Hedge Fund – Dream Big) – Has been struggling in recent times. However, those runs by California Crown were in the classes above. He steps down here to compete and is expected give the favourite most to do.

2. STRIKE SMART: (5 b h by
Wannabeaplayer – Profile ) – Unlikely to feature. Strike Smart can safely be bypassed in this one.

3. ZULU PRINCESS: (4 ch c by Soul Warrior – Lookatmenow) – Consistent sort who was a winner on last. It is hard to see Zulu Princess repeating here.

4. HUNTSMAN: (5 ch h by Key to Power – Dream Point) – Is going to be left behind in this one.

5. ATLANTIC CONVOY (CAN): (5 ch c by Stormy Atlantic – My Sweet Emily) – Finished a good third behind Prince Amaan and Champion Bubbler over the 5-straight course on November 22. Atlantic Convoy also goes well here and is expected to be one of the top contenders here.

6. FORTUNA BELLE (USA): (5 dk b/br m by Uncaptured – Double Seven) – Fortuna Belle was originally entered for the Mouttet Mile but was pulled and won’t be competing. However, she has been training fairly well for her first run on local soil and is expected to get off the mark right away.

7. TEFLON DON: (4 b c by Casual Trick – The Lady Scored) – Capable on his day but should not trouble the main contenders here.

8. BULLETPROOFCOFFEE (USA): 5 b m by He Be Fire N Ice – Plan A Surprise) – Beaten by
Mighty Gully in a fast time (58.3) over the 5-furlong straight course on November 22. While she runs her best races out of the straight, Bulletproofcoffee should use her speed to navigate the bend well and put up a good fight in deep stretch.

9. COOKIE DAY N NIGHT: (4 ch h by Resurgence – Eloping Emma) – Not expected to win. Outside chance at best.
