Jamaica Women’s Premier League launches 2025/26 season
KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) 2025/26 season has officially launched with 12 teams set to vie for national honours.
The new season kicks off this Saturday, March 7, marking what organisers say is another significant step in the structured growth and continued professionalisation of women’s football in Jamaica.
Now in its second season under the management of Professional Women’s Football Jamaica Limited (PWFJL), executing the league on behalf of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), the JWPL continues to strengthen governance, commercial development, digital presence, and competitive standards across the women’s game.
The season was launched on Tuesday at a media event attended by government officials, corporate partners, football administrators, players, and members of the media introducing 12 clubs — Arnett Gardens FC, Cavalier SC, Federal United FC, Fraziers Whip FC (defending champions), Los Perfectos FC, Mile Gully FC, Proven Girls SC, Real Mobay AFC, Real Mona FC (New Entrant), Springers United SC, UWI Women’s FC, and WiFi United FC.
The clubs will be divided into Zone A and Zone B, contesting a condensed three-month competition format. Matches will primarily be played on Saturdays across multiple venues islandwide, culminating in a two-legged semi-final round scheduled for May 16 and May 23, 2026.
Organisers say the league remains firmly committed to its long-term competition model and anticipates returning to a full six-month season beginning in December 2026.
Noting that last season marked its inaugural year managing the marketing and commercialisation of the league, Chairperson of PWFJL, Christina Hudson, said it exceeded expectations.
“We increased visibility across digital and mainstream platforms, introduced live streaming, and created tangible opportunities for our players — including university scholarships and professional contracts. That is impact. That is transformation. That is why this work matters.”
Hudson said as the league enters its second season, PWFJL will be raising the bar, strengthening its digital footprint, expanding capacity-building initiatives and building a sustainable ecosystem for women’s football in Jamaica.
She emphasised that the league’s evolution extends beyond competition.
“This is more than football. It is about structure, professionalism, opportunity, and empowering Jamaican women. When our league grows, our players grow — and when our players grow, our nation benefits.”
A video message from Jamaica Football Federation President, Michael Ricketts, reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to advancing women’s football, while Vice President and Head of Women’s Football, Elaine Walker-Brown, highlighted the league’s strategic importance within the national football framework.
The new season also introduces the league’s official website, creating a centralised digital home for fixtures, standings, match highlights, news, and league updates. Weekly matches will be streamed live via the league’s official YouTube channel, further expanding access and visibility locally and internationally.

Corporate partners, including Kind Hearts Foundation, Valvoline, KFC, Supreme Ventures, Sherwin Williams, SORA Media, MPowa, Wata, Powerade, TruShake, Hummel Jamaica, The Jamaica Observer, Mailpac, and Acroscopic, were recognised for their continued support of the women’s game.
