Molynes keep survival hopes alive with 9-0 routing of Spanish Town Police
Molynes United boosted their Jamaica Premier League survival hopes in emphatic fashion after hammering Spanish Town Police (STP) 9-0 in what was the biggest result yesterday.
The win in the relegation-zone six-pointer lifted Molynes further away from danger, while STP’s plight worsened at the foot of the table.
Rashawn Livingston gave Molynes the lead in the eighth minute before Samson Oke added the first of his two goals in the 36th to put them firmly in control at the break.
Nicholas Nelson extended the lead in the 47th minute, and Odane Murray made it 4-0 in the 67th as Molynes took full command.
Substitutes Nickache Murray (69th) and Zubeiru Suleiman (81st) added to the score, while Oke completed his double in the 73rd minute. Tyrique Wilson got on the scoresheet in the 83rd before an own goal by Ryieme Gayle in the 87th capped a day STP will quickly hope to forget.
Elsewhere, Phoenix Chapelton Maroons kept their slim play-off hopes alive after beating Treasure Beach 3-0 at STETHS Sports Complex.
Zhaine Pinnock struck twice in the 16th and 41st minutes to give Chapelton control at half-time, before Leaunghn Williams added a late third in the 90th minute to seal the victory.
The result keeps Chapelton within striking distance of the top six, while Treasure Beach remain dangerously close to the relegation zone after another defeat.
In another game on the day, Dunbeholden and Racing United played out a 0-0 draw, a result that does little to strengthen either team’s push for a play-off spot.
Portmore United and defending champions Cavalier also played to a 0-0 stalemate that leaves both teams still needing points to secure their positions in the top six.
In the late games yesterday, Arnett Gardens and Montego Bay United were scheduled to clash at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, while Waterhouse were set to welcome Tivoli Gardens at Drewsland and Mount Pleasant host Harbour View at Drax Hall.
