Etana’s love letter to ‘the herb’
On the heels of her Reggae Month ambassadorship, recording artiste Etana has released her 10th studio album, The Ganja Collection.
It was released on April 20 via Freemind Music Records.
A deeply personal and culturally rooted project, this seven-track collection is a celebration of the sacred herb; known in Jamaica as ganja, sensimilla, high grade, and the “healing of the nation”.
For generations the herb has been woven into the fabric of Jamaican identity, spirituality, and resistance. Central to the Rastafari movement, ganja is revered as a sacrament used for meditation, healing, clarity, and connection to the divine.
The Ganja Collection honours this legacy with intention and authenticity, according to the artiste.
“4/20 is the unofficial cultural holiday for marijuana lovers around the world. It’s a day for activism, for education, and for awareness about the medicinal uses of the herb, and that’s what inspired this album,” Etana said. “Ganja is not just a plant in Jamaica; it is part of our heritage, our healing, and our resistance. This album is a love letter to the herb and the culture that raised me.”
Building on the success of her 2019 anthem Ganja Lovers, Etana delivers seven original tracks that explore the herb’s spiritual, medicinal, and cultural significance. Her signature raw soul vocals glide over rich roots reggae instrumentation, deep basslines, and uplifting melodies, capturing the unmistakable irie essence of reggae music.
A standout moment on the album is the debut collaboration between Etana and her son, Yosa Malago, on the track Good Draw. Her first-ever mother-son musical pairing adds a powerful and intimate dimension to the project. There is also a collaboration with Cold Fever on the track Mt Zion.
Some of her previous albums have include Nectar of the Gods, Pamoja, Gemini, Dimensions, and The Strong One.
