Maddenstraight to the point
Zidan Madden claimed his second overall victory in the Point 2 Point Time Attack dexterity series by winning the second round of the event, held on Sunday, April 26, 206 at Overton Plaza, Montego Bay, St James.
“Feels good. I came out of the last event of Point 2 Point with the win as well, so I came here for the win, did my best, did what I could, and it brought us the second win,” Madden told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly
Auto magazine.
His father, Leslie, was also happy at his son’s domination of the series so far.
“I’m speechless, actually. To see him drive and doing very well, displaying some excellent car control, is beyond words,” he said.
Madden was once again up against a stacked field of dexterity veterans, including Maurice Whittingham and Cleve Ottey. Up until the championship run he had only been third-fastest in his class, behind Ottey and Marc Graham, the latter being the fastest driver of the night. Once he qualified for the top 10, Madden, in his Toyota Starlet, kept his composure under pressure from fellow competitors to come out on top at the end of the night, while Whittingham and fan favourite Ottey would suffer mechanical issues that would put them out in the all-important championship run. That left enough room for Graham and Jayson Reid to complete the podium spots, respectively.
The front-wheel drive classes were action-packed as Stephen Mahoney took his Honda Fit to a class win, and Kai Chuck-Dion went home front-wheel drive-LSD class victor in his Honda Civic.
“We changed up a little stuff because we realised that there were some faults. It’s definitely the tuning and the hard work put in that plays a big part in my success,” added Madden.
Like Madden, organiser Mahoney is also looking at the next round as the event to increase its size and scale of importance by crowning a national dexterity champion for 2026.
“We have joined with Team Streetz in Kingston, and competitors will have to enter at least two events from Team Streetz and two from Point 2 Point to qualify for the championship at the end of year,” Mahoney explained.
