BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) –The Barbados Tridents are officially back. The Royals Sports Group (RSG), in a historic three-year deal with the Government of Barbados, has confirmed that the Tridents will return to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), trading the Royals’ colours for the nation’s iconic blue and yellow.

The relaunch, unveiled as part of the ambitious One Barbados initiative, marks the end of a five-year stint as the Barbados Royals.

More than a mere rebrand, officials say, the move represents a first-of-its-kind public-private partnership in elite franchise cricket, designed to transform the Tridents into a year-round national asset and a roaring symbol of Barbadian pride.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, speaking with palpable emotion, framed the return as a powerful milestone ahead of the island’s 60th anniversary of Independence.

“As Barbados marks its 60th year of Independence, the One Barbados partnership encapsulates everything that we, as a young nation, have accomplished thus far,” Mottley said.

“The return to the Barbados Tridents reflects our confidence, our pride, and our ambition as a nation as we begin to chart the path towards our next 60 years.”

The prime minister underscored cricket’s sacred place in the national soul, adding, “Cricket has long been a core pillar of our national identity and self-determination. As such, it is incredibly fitting that through this partnership we will see ourselves represented, in our national colours, with a name that speaks to who we are.”

Fans can expect a completely redesigned matchday jersey, one that sheds the Royals’ previous look and embraces the deep cricketing heritage of the island.

The Tridents will take the field once again in blue and yellow, colours that have long stirred pride from Kensington Oval to living rooms across the nation.
