Barnaby hard to oppose in Seeking My Dream Trophy feature

The running of the $1.75-million Seeking My Dream Trophy, a Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward, takes centre stage at Caymanas Park tomorrow. A field of six runners will do battle over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).

Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at each runner and their chances of winning.

1. FUNCAANDUN (USA): (5 b h by Klimt – Fiftyshadesoffun) – Finished fifth behind
Rideallday, Supernatural Power, and Barnaby in a record-breaking Ian Levy Cup over 8 ½ furlongs (1,700m) on April 6. He drops back in trip here and returns in good order. With Barnaby reopposing, he’ll need to find a bit more, but his tactical speed makes him a danger if the pace sets up for a closer.

2. IS THAT A FACT (USA): (6 b h by Palace Malice – Valid Code) – Comes in off a confident Overnight Allowance win on May 10, but this is a significant step up in class. He’s genuine and progressive, yet repeating that win against this group looks a tall order. Best watched for now.

3. NEO STAR: (7 b h by Neolithic – Angels Dream) – Finished third behind Barnaby and Girvano last time out. He meets both again here under similar conditions, which makes the task tough. Consistent without being progressive, he’ll need the principals to falter to get involved.

4. GIRVANO (USA): (5 b c by Girvin – Summer In Midway ) – Ran a solid second to Barnaby over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on April 26 and has trained well since. The big edge here is the light impost of 48.0kg, which gives him a real chance to turn the tables if he gets a soft trip. A live contender.

5. CALIFORNIA CROWN: (5 ch h by Hedge Fund – Dream Big) – Has shown little to suggest he can compete at this level. On form, he looks outclassed and faces a near-impossible task against this field.

6. BARNABY (USA): (5 b h by Tapiture – Giants Diva) – The one to beat. Barnaby dismantled this class by 6 lengths over 9 furlongs and 25 yards on April 26 and has been prepared with this race in mind. He returns carrying only 53.0kg and looks to have the race in his keeping if he brings that form. Hard to oppose.
