Brothers charged
...allegedly found with lead sheets, Visa card
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A police operation in Garlands, St James, has led to court proceedings involving two brothers, Dante and Renaldo Sparse, who appeared in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday before Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton.
They are charged with possession of identity information and possession of an access device under the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act. The men are being represented by attorney Henry McCurdy.
The court heard that on April 16, approximately 5:15 pm, police conducted an operation at premises where the brothers reside. During the search, officers reportedly found a Visa bank card.
Two cellular phones were also identified at the location, and both men acknowledged ownership of the devices. A subsequent examination of the phones allegedly uncovered several lead sheets containing information linked to individuals residing overseas.
When cautioned and questioned about the ownership of the bank card, Dante is reported to have told officers, “Beg yuh a chance, officer.”
Renaldo is also reported to have said, “Mi nuh know nutten ‘bout di card officer, but mi a beg yuh a chance.”
Following the incident both men were arrested and charged and later offered bail.
In court on Wednesday it was disclosed that Renaldo had initially been granted station bail in the sum of $400,000 but was unable to take it up. He was subsequently offered fresh bail in the reduced amount of $300,000, with up to three sureties and reporting conditions attached.
Dante was already in custody in relation to a separate matter currently before the Gun Court. He was therefore remanded and will remain in custody.
The court was further informed that the corroborating officer’s statement is still outstanding. The matter has been set for mention on June 16.
