WATCH: Residents block roads in Granville as situation escalates
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Following the death of community resident Latoya Bulgin during an alleged confrontation with a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) on Sunday, residents of Granville have blocked the roads in the community.
Residents used old appliances, trees and other objects to block several intersections in the community and have lit fires in some of these areas.
The JCF and a team from the Jamaica Fire Brigade are now working to clear the blocked roadways.
Residents are furious at the woman’s death after she was shot fatally by a member of the police.
Bulgin was driving a group of people to participate in a protest when the incident took place. Captured on CCTV footage, she was shot while seated behind the steering wheel of a Toyota Voxy in the community square. She later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at hospital.

The member of the JCF involved in the incident has since been placed under interdiction by the Police High Command. Investigations are being carried out by the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB).
There remains a strong police presence in the area.
