Vanessa Bling gets personal on True Story

Vanessa Bling is preparing to deliver one of the most personal releases of her career through her upcoming single True Story.

Set to arrive on May 20 across all major digital streaming platforms, the track is rooted in raw emotion, reflection, and resilience and will see the dancehall artiste opening up about some of the darkest and most defining periods of her life.

Using music as a platform to reclaim her voice, freedom, and strength, the entertainer said the song was created from a deeply honest place and reflects real-life experiences that helped shape both the woman and artiste she has become today.

“Everything I went through helped shape the woman I am today. It made me tougher, wiser, and more grounded in who I am,” she shared. “As an artiste, it taught me to create from a place of honesty and not be afraid to express pain, growth, and resilience. As a woman, it strengthened my faith and my confidence. I know my story can inspire others because, even in dark moments, I never gave up on myself.”

Built around themes of perseverance, public scrutiny, emotional pain and survival, True Story captures Vanessa Bling revisiting years marked by hardship, judgement and personal battles while ultimately celebrating the resilience that carried her through.

Opening with the words “Yeah, yeah, true story,” the track immediately establishes an intimate and vulnerable tone as the entertainer reflects on lost years, isolation, and the feeling of fighting against forces determined to break her spirit.

“Years of my life that mi can’t get back / No want me free dem want fi take me way,” she sings.

Throughout the song, Vanessa Bling speaks candidly about enduring pressure, betrayal, and public challenges while refusing to compromise herself or lose hope.

“They tried to break me down / They tried to take my crown / They could never take my pride,” she declares during one of the track’s defining moments.

The chorus, built around the repeated cry of “Freedom, freedom, I deserved my freedom,” transforms the song into both a personal testimony and a strengthen for listeners navigating their own struggles.

“True Story is really me speaking from a real place in my life,” Vanessa Bling explained. “There were moments where I felt misunderstood, judged, and tested, but through it all I kept my faith and stayed strong. I wanted people to hear my truth directly from me through the music.”

She added that the song is intended to encourage listeners facing silent battles of their own.

“A lot of people go through struggles silently, so I hope this song reminds them that no matter what they face, they can overcome it and still rise stronger,” she said.

The emotionally charged single also highlights Vanessa Bling’s vulnerability as she reflects on the people who distanced themselves during difficult moments in her life, while expressing gratitude for those who remained supportive through prayer and encouragement.

Known for balancing emotional honesty with dancehall energy, Vanessa Bling continues to use music as a vehicle for empowerment and authentic storytelling.

Following the release of the single, Vanessa Bling is also scheduled to perform at Best of the Best Music Fest 2026 on Sunday, May 24, at Museum Park in downtown Miami, joining a line-up of leading names in reggae, dancehall, and soca music.
