Gov’t must practise the productivity it preaches
Dear Editor,
The Government has been speaking ad nauseum about the low productivity of the working population, which it says has resulted in low economic growth over the past six decades.
I wish to request that the Government moves with the same alacrity it did to increase the salaries of its members to improve the productivity of the agencies that represent it, an item that falls squarely in its court.
My experience doing business with the Jamaican Government is one of wasted time and stress, fuelled by unanswered phones and e-mail addresses that do not work. Information is necessary for us to do what we need to do to feed ourselves, and not having the ability to make decisions in a timely manner leads to poor decisions which waste time, money, and opportunity.
It seems incongruous that ministers of government can get a call through to their banks and any agency with whom they are doing business, but the ordinary citizen is left frustrated in every aspect of his/her daily life. I will not mention the waste of time that is the so-called public transportation sector, which is the chief waster of the public’s time, and also dangerous.
Please, government ministers, use the power and influence you have ascribed to yourselves to employ capable personnel who are paid a liveable wage and provided with appropriate working environments to do the jobs we need them to do. You were elected to do the job of managing our environment and affairs, not work for your party, your family, or friends.
