Hinds hails Bunny Shaw’s historic season as a triumph for Jamaican sports
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition Spokesperson on Labour and Sports, Wavell Hinds, is congratulating Jamaican football star Khadija “Bunny” Shaw following what he described as an outstanding 2025/26 season that further solidified her reputation as one of the world’s top footballers.
Shaw recently capped a historic season by helping Manchester City secure the Women’s Super League title while earning several major individual accolades. Among her achievements were being named the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year for the second time, winning the Women’s Football Awards Player of the Year, receiving Manchester City’s Etihad Player of the Season award, and securing a record third consecutive Women’s Super League Golden Boot.
Hinds said Shaw’s accomplishments continue to showcase the exceptional talent, discipline and determination Jamaican athletes bring to the international stage.
“Khadija Shaw has once again made Jamaica proud. Her achievements this season are not only a personal triumph but a source of inspiration for young people across our country,” he said. “To consistently perform at the highest level of world football and to be recognised by journalists, supporters, teammates, and the wider football community speaks volumes about her character and her excellence.”
Hinds noted that Shaw’s success extends far beyond goals and trophies.
“Bunny Shaw has become a symbol of what is possible through hard work, resilience and belief. She continues to break barriers, elevate the profile of women’s football, and represent Jamaica with distinction wherever she goes. Every young girl who dreams of playing sport can look at her journey and see what can be achieved,” the Opposition spokesperson said.
Hinds also welcomed reports that Shaw has committed her future to Manchester City through a new long-term contract, describing it as a reflection of her value to the club and her standing in global football.
“As a nation, we celebrate her achievements and thank her for the pride she brings to Jamaica. She continues to be an outstanding ambassador for our country and a shining example of Jamaican excellence,” he said.
The Opposition spokesman added that the party remains committed to advocating for greater investment in sports development, particularly initiatives that create opportunities for young women.
“Khadija Shaw’s success reminds us of the immense talent that exists within our people. Our responsibility is to create the conditions that allow that talent to flourish,” Hinds said.
