SO2 Dîner en Blanc
Part 3
As dinner drew to a close, the night sky shimmered with sparklers — a signature Le Dîner en Blanc tradition that signals the opening of the dance floor and the beginning of the evening’s next chapter. At 9:00 pm the dance floor came alive to the unmistakable sounds of Super Cat’s Mud Up as DJs Taj Mahal and Fire Que ignited an epic old-school dancehall set, heralding a full-fledged celebration beneath the night sky.
A tradition that began beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1988 has since evolved into one of the world’s most eagerly anticipated dining experiences, with Le Dîner en Blanc staging its signature all-white soirées everywhere from Munich and Singapore to New York City. While Saturday’s affair was not the event’s first stop in Kingston, its Port Royal chapter felt particularly magical — a seamless blend of history, culture, elegance, and unmistakable Jamaican charm.
As the evening unfolded against the backdrop of the once pirate-controlled town, Johnson reflected on her vision for the franchise’s local evolution. “Next year, who knows where next,” she teased. “But my goal is to make people see the best of Jamaica using Dîner En Blanc as an avenue, so you can really discover the hidden paradises, what makes it a gem, and what makes our country so special.”
Argentine Ambassador to Jamaica Marcelo Balbi Calvo and his wife Fabiana Fajardo joined in on the sparkler moment, the magical Dîner en Blanc tradition that closes the meal and opens the dance floor. Naphtali Junior
