St Andrew surge into lead at JISA Prep Championships
ST Andrew Prep School surged to the top of the JISA/GKGI/GK Mutual Funds Prep Championships after five finals on the second day at the National Stadium, on a day when Nevero Gordon of Knox Junior Prep equalled the Class Two 60m record.
On Friday, Gordon stopped the clock at 8.37 seconds in winning his heat to be the fastest into the semi-finals. He was ahead of Lucas Young of Sts Peter and Paul who clocked 8.50. Neymar Mosley of Avondale Prep is also in the mix, winning heat seven in 8.82.
St Andrew Prep, who started the day in seventh spot on four points, raced to 35 points and hold a five-point lead over defending champions Sts Peter and Paul (30). Our Lady of the Angels are third on 27.5 points while Mona Prep are fourth with 23. Hydel Prep rounded out the top five with 23 points entering the third and final day.
In the first final on Friday, Danoya Byro of St Andrew Prep captured the Girls’ Class One high jump with 1.55m. Her teammate Chantae Brown was second with 1.35m, with Alayne Wilson of Portmore Missionary third, also with 1.35m
In the Girls’ Class Two long jump, Shaneika Shann of Sts Peter and Paul took the event with a leap of 4.46m (+2.6). Khariah Peart of Mount St Joseph was second with 4.24m, and Leila Bell of Mona Prep was third with 4.15m.
Jadon Allison of St Andrew Prep claimed the Boys’ Class Two long jump title with a leap of 4.51m, which was his personal best though well shy of the record of 5.11m. His teammate, Liam Bowman, was second with 4.45m as they secured 16 big points for their school. Christian Walker of Sts Peter and Paul was third, also with 4.45m.
In the girls’ ball throw qualifications Shamoya Thompson of Christel House Jamaica had the best throw heading into the final of 36.50m. Christina Brown of Sts Peter and Paul was second best with 32.63m and Peyton Thompson of Belair Prep third best with 31.45m.
Paris White of Stella Maris will enter the Girls’ Class One 100m finals with the fastest time of 13.11 in winning semi-final one. Victoria Roache of St Andrew Prep, with 13.71, won semi-final two, and Tahalia Mitchell of Vaz Prep won the third semi in 13.77.
Dadrique Mebourne of Belair Prep was the fastest in the finals of the Boys’ Class One 100 with 12.89. Antoinde Robinson of Liguanae Prep was second fastest with 12.99, while Devoran Dixon of Lannaman’s was third best with 13.02.
