Oasis on Tap (Part 2)
Style Observer Gardening (SOG) returns to the serene oasis of Willy’s Thatch Roof & Cool Out Spot. This lush sanctuary is a personal passion project for Managing Director William Denton, and serves as a living tribute to the horticultural lessons instilled by his late mother Cicilyn Denton.
While patrons gather to relax and share good times with friends in a tranquil environment, the garden offers Denton something more personal: A space for deep reflection and a welcome sense of peace.
“Caring for my plants is like caring for my children. My garden gives me peace of mind. Even though plants cannot speak, just being around them creates a safe space to think, reflect, and put my thoughts together,” Denton says.
At the heart of Denton’s garden is a simple philosophy: A positive mindset and the right perspective are the true catalysts for growth. From the initial sourcing of perfect specimens to the daily commitment of watering and maintenance, the entire garden stands as a beautiful labour of love.
It is this philosophy that he shares with aspiring gardeners looking to create their own sanctuary.
His advice remains simple yet impactful: Cultivate positive energy, take your time, and begin with small, incremental steps to build up the space.
“I would encourage anyone who wants to start gardening to begin small and nurture their plants with love and care. Whatever energy you put into your garden is what you will get in return,” Denton advises. “Flowers thrive on energy, if your heart is not clean, your plants will not grow.”
