Tajay Gayle wins first long jump title in 5 years
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former World Athletics Champion Tajay Gayle won his first men’s long jump title since 2021 on Saturday after he jumped a season’s best 8.37m (1.6m/s) in the final on the third day of the JAAA national championships at the National Stadium.
His distance saw him move up in the world ranking to joint seventh as the race for places at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships heats up.
Gayle, who also had a wind-aided 8.31m (2.6m/s), beat Jordan Turner of Louisiana State University who had a wind-aided 8.22m (3.2m/s) with Nikaoli Williams third with a wind-aided 7.89m (2.3m/s).
