Shawn Storm delivers at A Taste of Sumfest

Dancehall artiste Shawn Storm received his fair share of crowd approval at the highly anticipated A Taste of Sumfest happening at Plantation Cove in St Ann.

The deejay, known for his unwavering loyalty to associate Vybz Kartel, received several enthusiastic pull-ups for his track Itch Scratch, which was originally released in December 2025.

The song, a departure from Storm’s usual catalogue of tracks centered on women and street life, took on a light-hearted, comical tone that resonated surprisingly well with patrons. What began as a humorous departure quickly became one of the standout moments of his set, with the audience demanding multiple rewinds.

Co-hosts Jade and Pretty Boy Floyd set the tone perfectly, introducing Storm as “the most loyal friend” to loud cheers. The introduction carried extra weight on a stage primed for one of dancehall’s biggest clashes: the ‘Worl’ Boss’ Vybz Kartel, set to face off against Mavado later in the event.

The deejay’s presence carried deeper significance given his journey. Along with Vybz Kartel and other members of the Empire, he spent 13 years behind bars before the Privy Council quashed their sentences two years ago, leading to their release. His return to the stage has been marked by gratitude and renewed vigor, qualities evident throughout his performance.

Beyond Itch Scratch, Storm treated fans to favourites including Empire and My Life. He took time to encourage the crowd to “rep for Gaza,” a clear reaffirmation of his allegiance to the Portmore Empire and its leader despite recent online narratives that there was tension between the two.

The call was met with strong support from the St Ann audience, highlighting the enduring loyalty that defines Storm’s career.

“I was very happy to see that he was on the bill because he really is a great friend to Kartel given all they have been through in prison, and getting a new chance at life,” one patron from Miami told Observer Online.
