Viveen Barnaby says God Will Fix It

Having experienced a rough patch in her life, gospel singer and songwriter Viveen Barnaby decided to share that life-changing moment on her latest single God Will Fix It.

The song, which was produced by Traig Taylor, was released in April.

“I have been coming out of a very hard season of my life where I was sick unto death. I had many questions, and at times did not feel the Lord’s presence, which made it even harder. I felt forgotten. Holding on and having faith was what I had to do while trusting Him. I remembered the many times He delivered me and I was reminded that He is a God that will never change (Malachi 3:6), [but] I felt so broken, the season was lonely, hard, and very trying… [Still,] I survived and came out victorious to lift the faith of others and let them know that God has not forgotten them, and that they should not give up — keep holding on cause God will fix it,” Barnaby told the Jamaica Observer recently.

She shared that the song is a personal one and it is also a message that God conveyed to her.

“While in church one Sunday worshipping, I just started singing the words, ‘God will fix it,’ and when I realised that the Lord was giving me a message in a song to be encouraged and shared with others, I grabbed my phone and started recording it,” she said, while adding that she is surprised at the public’s reception. “The response has been good so far, many people have expressed their love for the song especially in times like these. It has been playing on a few radio stations a lot, especially Gospel JA, where it is one of the most requested songs.”

The feedback has encouraged her to commence work on a full-length album.

Four years ago she released the six-track EP titled You Won’t Let Me Fail.

It was at the age of 18 that Barnaby, who has been married for more than 20 years, gave her life to the Lord and became a born-again Christian.

“I knew that the Lord was calling me,” she said. “But I was being very stubborn. I understood that there is a God and His name is Jesus Christ and He died for me. At age 18 years I hit rock bottom. I wanted to kill myself. I saw no purpose, no reason to my life. I was very depressed and got entangled in a toxic relationship and couldn’t see my way out. And one day I found myself on a small, hilly area and started praying as a sinner. I felt something different, and tears started flowing from my eyes. I felt a strength I didn’t know, a power that I could conquer. I immediately went into my relatives’ house where I lived at the time and told them that I am leaving to go to church and go back to live with my mom. They said to me, ‘But you can go church here so, and you a go back inna the ghetto.’ Nothing they said could have convinced me to stay, because I felt that was what the Lord wanted me to do. I went to church in the crucifixion season — March 2004 — and gave my life to Jesus Christ, and I have never regretted that decision.”

Barnaby, who has performed at gospel events including Gospel Explosion and Gospel Reload, is from Marlie Acres in Old Harbour, St Catherine. She is a past student of Old Harbour High School.

She spoke about her relationship with the Lord.

“Very intimate and personal, He is my closest friend. I don’t treat Him like a spirit but a real being who I want to have around me always. I tell Him everything; my deepest thoughts, the small things that wouldn’t matter to humans. I don’t just acknowledge Him in troubled times, but all times,” Barnaby shared.
