Title-holders Jamaica vie for return to CFU U-14 Challenge Series final
DEFENDING champions Jamaica will be seeking back-to-back qualification to the final of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-14 Boys Tier 1 Challenge Series when they take on Bermuda in the semi-finals in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Jamaica completed a clean sweep of their first round group with nine points from three wins, without conceding a goal. They were followed by St Kitts & Nevis, on four points, Aruba (two points) and Curacao (one point).
Haiti, who won Group B, and the Dominican Republic, winners of Group A, are to meet in the other semi-final game for a place in Sunday’s final.
Bermuda were runners up in Group A with five points, winning one game and drawing the other two. They will face a Jamaica team that has outscored opponents 7-0 so far.
REYNOLDS… I have seen where the young lads are improving individually and collectively
Jamaica beat St Kitts & Nevis 4-0 in their opening game on Monday, before edging Aruba 1-0 on Tuesday and defeating Curacao 2-0 on Wednesday. The Jamaicans are the only team with a 100 percent win record in the competition.
Tai-Sean Headley has scored three of Jamaica’s goals so far, and head coach Vassell Reynolds said he was impressed with how the team has done at the tournament.
“Clearly we have made progress. I have seen where the young lads are improving individually and collectively and that’s pleasing to see,” he told the Jamaica Observer after Wednesday’s win.
“Overall, we are pleased with the effort of the entire team so far and we anticipate even more improvement going forward,” Reynolds said.
