Run Julie Run, Don Kwesi in Poorlittlerichgirl showdown

Run Julie Run, Don Kwesi in Poorlittlerichgirl showdown

The fourth running of the $1.4-million Poorlittlerichgirl Trophy looks set to come down to Run Julie Run and Don Kwesi when six face the starter in the Open Allowance for three-year-old and upward over 7½ furlongs (1,500m) this afternoon.

Run Julie Run, trained by Peter-John Parsard appears to be the main one to beat. The five-year-old grey mare by Successful Native has been the picture of consistency and comes in off an impressive victory in the Mark My Word Trophy on July 18.

She took that 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) contest by 1 ¼ lengths from stablemate Intrestntimesahead, stopping the clock in a very good time of 1:52.2. She has continued to work well in the mornings and will be extremely tough to beat if she can make it two wins in a row.

Her biggest threat is the Barrington Bernard-conditioned Don Kwesi. The four-year-old colt by Sensational Slam is one of the most improved horses in training at present. He finished a three-length fourth behind Dothraki, Rainsville and California Crown over 5½ furlongs 91,100m) on August 1, but this step up to 7 ½ furlongs should suit him perfectly.

Reports from the track suggest he has trained really well coming into this and he looks primed to take a big step forward. On form and progression, this shapes as a proper match race.

Supremasi, trained by Anthony Nunes, cannot be ignored. The five-year-old by Savoy Stomp won over this exact trip on August 6 in a sharp time of 1:30.0. That was a very good clocking and in a small field, he has to be considered for at least a place in the exacta.

Of the others, Sensational Soul has been working well and should run a decent race, but this company may prove a bit sharp for the four-year-old.

King Piye has no realistic chance on current form and it is hard to see him featuring, while D Head Cornerstone looks outclassed here and is likely to be left behind.

This is Run Julie Run versus Don Kwesi. Run Julie Run brings the class and the recent win, but Don Kwesi brings improvement and a pedigree that screams 7½ furlongs.
