The Richard Azan-trained five-year-old grey gelding Mojito ended his five-race losing streak with a gutsy win in the 22nd running of the $1.25-million Arthur Jones Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park on Sunday.

With Tajay Suckoo in the saddle, Mojito tracked the leaders from mid-pack approaching the half-mile (800m) turn. Going into the turn, Mojito hugged the inside rails and saved ground in fourth place behind
Formalist (Abigail Able), Wall Street Trader (Nicardo Carr), and Cooler King (Reyan Lewis).

Wall Street Trader surged to the front of the pack deep in the stretch and looked the winner, but
Mojito found something extra in the final furlong. He came with a determined run along the rail and won going away at the wire by 1½ length. Wall Street Trader held second, while Zulu Warrior (Tyrese Anderson) rallied late to finish third.

The final time for the Overnight Allowance contest over 6 furlongs (1,200m) was a smooth 1:13.1 (23.4 x 48.0 x 1:00.2).

It was the second winner on the card for Suckoo as he earlier won aboard Dutchess in the second race for trainer Anthony Nunes.

Also with two winners was jockey Evertte Clunis. Clunis won aboard Moonlight Song in the first race for trainer Fitznahum Williams and Lucy On The Go for trainer Renex Burrell in the fourth race.

Racing is to continue on the weekend with action on Saturday and Sunday.
