The
stage is set for a transatlantic showdown when reigning Horse of the Year
Rideallday
takes on highly rated American import
The Prince’s Spur
in the 54th running of the $2.5-million Philip Feanny Gold Cup at Caymanas Park this afternoon.
The 7-furlong (1,400m) Graded Stakes/Open Allowance feature drew a select field of five runners, but all eyes will be on this clash between local-based dominance and overseas class.
Adding to the stakes, the Gold Cup is one of the “Win and You’re In” races offering automatic entry into December’s USA$300,000 Mouttet Mile.
Rideallday, a four-year-old American-bred grey/roan colt by
Vekoma, trained by Philip Feanny, carries the weight of expectation. He was last seen finishing a disappointing fifth in the Diamond Mile on July 25 after stumbling at the start and trailing 13 lengths behind
Phenomenal Power.
Prior to that blip, however,
Rideallday was in irresistible form, reeling off three consecutive victories, including a track-record performance in the Ian Levy Cup over 8½ furlongs (1,700m) on April 6. With a run under his belt, he is expected to bounce back. He has already qualified for the Mouttet Mile with the win in the Ian Levy Cup.
Standing in his way is
The Prince’s Spur. The seven-year-old American-bred bay gelding by
Cairo Prince makes his Jamaican debut with serious credentials. From 16 starts in the United States, he recorded four wins, three seconds, and four thirds, earning nearly $260,000.
His last victory came on January 15, 2026 at Gulfstream Park, where he captured a mile claiming race by 5 lengths in 1:38.2. Local reports indicate
The Prince’s Spur has been working very well since arriving, and he is viewed as the most likely to challenge or defeat
Rideallday, even if he may need the race.
The contest is positioned as the eighth event on the 10-race card with a post time of 4:25 pm. First race is at 11:50 am.
Pack Plays (USA) also merits respect. The five-year-old by
Stay Thirty comes off an easy win in the None Such Sprint over six furlongs (1,200m) in 1:10.3 on August 15. The extra furlong should not trouble him and he looks set to fight out the minor placings.
The remaining pair face uphill tasks.
Boss Man has improved rapidly to reach this level, but appears outgunned, while
Is That A Fact (USA) has shown little to suggest he can be competitive here.
