MOTORISTS who may have captured footage of Monday afternoon’s shooting of a man on Constant Spring Road, close to the intersection with Shortwood Road, are being encouraged to share those videos with cops.

There were unofficial sources that claimed two people were shot but the police could only confirm one.

Superintendent Randy Sweeney, who heads the St Andrew North Police Division where the incident occurred, told the Jamaica Observer Monday afternoon that cops had no leads at that time and were depending on the assistance of the public to crack the case.

“The police are asking anybody with information on the shooting to reach out to the Constant Spring Police at 876-924-1421. Anybody who witnessed it or have any dashcam video, we would appreciate that as there are no leads at this time. One person who was shot was transported to hospital where he is undergoing treatment. I can’t speak of his condition at the moment,” Sweeney said.

Videos which began circulating on social media following the incident showed a Mercedes Benz motor vehicle which appeared to have crashed into a utility pole in the left lane, heading in the direction of Dunrobin Avenue. The right side of the car had three distinct bullet holes, two in the driver’s window and another in the window behind the driver. There were scratches on the right side of the vehicle and the rear view mirror was torn off.

On the left side there was one clear bullet hole in the front passenger window and there were scratches on the left side of the vehicle. The rear view mirror on the left side was also damaged, but it was not ascertained whether it occurred during the incident which also resulted in a number of other motor vehicles that were stuck in traffic being damaged.

One businessman in the area told the Observer that everyone was curious as to the identity of the victim.

“This happened early afternoon, somewhere between noon and 1:00 pm. A whole heap a car get lick. The driver was trying to get away from the attackers and ran into other vehicles,” he said.

Monday’s shooting was not recorded in the latest statistics for St Andrew North posted to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s website.

The division recorded eight incidents of shooting from January 1 to September 5. This figure is way less than the corresponding period last year when there were 35 cases of shooting. In terms of murders, the division recorded nine for the period January 1 to September 5, which is 20 fewer than the same period in 2025.

The overall murder toll for the island stood at 372 between January 1 and September 5, compared to 474 over the same period last year.
