JOCKEY Abigail Able has been suspended for 25 race days by the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) for failing to ride out her mount in the final 400 metres of a race, but the penalty will not take effect until her appeal is heard.

According to a news release issued by the JRC stewards following inquiries held at the commission’s offices in Portmore, St Catherine, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Able was found in breach of Rule 200(ii) after her ride aboard Mandy in the second race on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The stewards ruled that Able “failed to display any effort to encourage her mount to obtain a better placing, during the final 400 metres of the race”.

Rule 200 of the Rules of Racing reads as follows:

(1) Every horse in a race shall be run on its merits whether the owner and/or trainer runs another horse in the race or not.

(2) The rider of every horse shall take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that his horse is given a full opportunity to win or of obtaining the best possible placing in the race.

Able has since filed an appeal against the stewards’ decision.

As a result, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide has been advised that no action can be taken on the suspension until the matter is heard by the commissioners/board of the JRC.

A date for the appeal hearing has not yet been announced.
